Auto-Plan: build a map from a floor plan with AI
What it is
Auto-Plan turns a picture of your floor plan into a working map. You upload an image, the AI analyzes it, and CreaRack Pro creates a new map with the racks, cable connections, walls, and text labels it detected. It saves you the manual placement work on large sites.
Be realistic about what to expect: the analysis takes a few minutes, and the result is a draft. Plan to review and adjust it afterwards.
How to run Auto-Plan
You need an admin account.
- Open the Map Editor and click Auto-Plan in the left sidebar. If you have no maps yet, the empty canvas also shows an Upload Floor Plan button — it does the same thing.
- Pick an image of your floor plan. Supported formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, and WebP. Maximum file size: 25 MB.
- Type a name for the new map when asked (Enter a name for this Auto-Plan:). It defaults to the file name. Leaving it empty cancels the import.
- Wait. A progress screen walks through the stages: analyzing the image, consulting the AI Brain, tracing connections, and finalizing. Keep the tab open — this can take a few minutes.
- When it finishes, the editor opens the new map automatically.
What the AI creates
- A new map with your chosen name.
- One rack per rack detected in the image, snapped to the grid. Each one is a real rack in your inventory, created at 42U by default with location “Imported Map”.
- A cable connection for every link the AI matched between two detected racks.
- Walls as lines, plus text labels and network symbols it spotted on the plan.
Review the result
The AI output needs a human pass. Check these points:
- Rack names. Labels can be misread from the image. Rename racks as needed.
- Rack sizes. Every imported rack starts at 42U. Adjust the height of the ones that differ.
- Connections. A connection is only drawn when the AI matches both endpoints to detected racks. Unmatched links are skipped silently — redraw them with the Cable tool.
- Positions. Placement follows the image proportions but you may want to fine-tune spacing.
If the result is poor, delete the map and retry with a cleaner or higher-contrast image, or tune the AI instructions in the Brain Editor (below).
The Brain Editor
The Brain Editor lets you edit the instructions the AI follows when it analyzes your floor plans. Use it when Auto-Plan keeps misreading something specific to your plans.
- Click Config AI in the left sidebar. The Brain Editor (AI System Prompt) dialog opens with the current instructions.
- Edit the text. Changes take effect immediately on the next Auto-Plan run.
- Click Save Changes to apply, or Cancel to discard.
The prompt is stored per organization — your changes never affect other CreaRack Pro customers.
Other controls in the dialog:
- Reset — restores the factory default prompt. Your current changes are lost.
- Help — shows copy-and-paste examples, such as ignoring walls, connecting every rack to its nearest neighbor, or detecting extra items like fire extinguishers.
- Save As — saves the current text as a named prompt so you can keep several variants (for example, one per site type).
- — Saved Prompts — dropdown with Load and Delete — loads a saved variant into the editor or removes it.
Loading a saved prompt only fills the editor; click Save Changes to make it the active brain.
Troubleshooting
- “Magic Import Failed” alert. Check the file: it must be an image in a supported format, under 25 MB, and under 64 megapixels. Very large scans should be downscaled first.
- “Too many Auto-Plan imports in progress” alert. Each organization can run up to 3 analyses at the same time. Wait for one of them to finish (the progress dialog tells you) and try again.
- The import finished but something is missing. When the AI returns an odd element, Auto-Plan skips just that element instead of failing the whole plan, and truncates over-long labels. The job result reports how many items were skipped; check the map and add them by hand.
- Few or wrong racks detected. Use a clean, high-contrast plan. Decorative or cluttered drawings confuse the AI. Tuning the Brain Editor prompt also helps.
- Missing connections. The AI only links racks it detected on the same run. Add the missing cables manually with the Cable tool.
