From Auto-Provision to the rack

What it is

The Auto-Provision Wizard scans your network and discovers devices over SNMP. Rack is one of the destinations you can assign to a discovered device: the device gets queued for a rack of your choice, and you finish the job by placing it on the rack canvas in the Rack Editor — with its management config (IP, hostname, vendor, SSH) already filled in.

Stored credentials never travel through the browser. If you used a saved credential during discovery, CreaRack resolves it server-side and the device inherits it — you don’t re-type passwords and the browser never sees the stored secret.

How to send discovered devices to a rack

  1. Run the wizard from the Terminal hub. It has two steps: Discovery and Results & Assign. See [[crearack—network—auto-provision-wizard]] for the scan options.
  2. In Results & Assign, tick the devices you want and set the Destination column of each row to Rack. To go faster, use Bulk assign for the checked rows, or Auto by type.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. The Assign Devices to Racks modal opens. Each row shows the device name, IP, vendor and detection confidence, with a rack selector. Pick a rack per device, or choose one in the bulk selector at the top and click Apply to set it on all rows.
  5. Click Confirm & Go to Dashboard. The assignments are stored in your browser and you’re redirected.

You can split devices across several racks in the same pass — each rack gets its own pending queue.

How to place pending devices in the rack

  1. Open an assigned rack in the Rack Editor.
  2. A floating Auto-Provision panel appears with the pending devices for that rack (name, IP, vendor, confidence).
  3. Click a device in the panel. It shows as selected: “SELECTED — Drag a stencil to place”.
  4. Drag a stencil from the Library sidebar onto the rack canvas. The new device is auto-named and its management config is set from the discovery data — IP, hostname, vendor and SSH connection details.
  5. Repeat for each pending device. The panel removes placed devices and closes itself once it reads “All devices placed!”.

Dismiss closes the panel and discards the remaining pending devices for that rack only.
