Create and organize racks
What it is
The My Racks dashboard is the home page of CreaRack Pro. It lists every rack in your organization, grouped by the map (floor plan) each rack is placed on, plus a No Map section for unplaced racks. From here you create racks, rename them, filter them, organize them into groups, clone them, and send them to the trash.
You need the admin or operator role to create, edit, clone or delete racks. Viewers see the dashboard read-only.
How to create a rack
- Open the dashboard.
- In the header form, type a Name (for example, “Server Room A”).
- Set Height (U). The default is 42, a standard 19” cabinet.
- Click Create.
The new rack appears in the No Map section. Click its card to open it in the Rack Editor and start placing devices.
How to edit a rack
- Name and location: double-click the name or the location line on the rack card, type, and press Enter. Changes save automatically.
- Everything else: open the rack and click Rack Properties in the editor header. There you can change U (height), Status (Active, Planned, Maintenance or Deprecated), Power Cons. (W, the rack’s nominal draw), Location, Detailed Notes, and the capacity limits — Max Power (W) and Max Weight (kg). The modal also shows the devices total (watts, kilos and used units) next to the limits.
The colored dot on each rack card shows its current status.
Capacity limits and warnings
Every rack can know what it holds — and what it can take:
- Each device has a Power (W) and Weight (kg) field in its properties panel.
- In Rack Properties you can set the rack’s Max Power and Max Weight (0 means no limit).
- The editor header shows the totals at a glance: used vs. total rack units (for example
12/42U), total power vs. limit (350 / 3500 W) and total weight vs. limit (80 / 800 kg). The badges turn amber at 90% of a limit and red when you exceed it, updating live as you add, move or edit devices. - The printable PDF of the rack includes a Capacity summary (space, power and weight with their status) and the power and weight of each device. The Project Report (File Operations) shows the same capacity line for every rack.
How to find racks
- Use the Search… box to filter by name or location.
- Use the plan dropdown (All Plans / No Plan / a specific map) to filter by map.
- Use the group dropdown (All Groups) to filter by group.
- Click a map section header to collapse or expand it.
Your search and filter choices persist between visits on the same browser.
How to organize racks with groups
Groups are colored labels you can filter by (for example, “Production” or “Client A”).
- Click Groups to open the Manage Groups modal.
- Type a name, pick a color, and click Create.
To assign racks to groups:
- Tick the checkbox on one or more rack cards.
- Click Groups. The modal now shows a checkbox next to each group.
- Tick the groups you want and click Apply to Selected.
A rack can belong to several groups at once.
How to clone a rack
Click the Clone button on a rack card. CreaRack creates “name (Copy)” with the same height, location and all devices in their original positions.
How to delete a rack
Click the Delete button on the rack card and confirm. The rack moves to the trash — it is not destroyed, and you can restore it later. See [[crearack—racks—trash-and-restore]].
To reuse a rack layout across many racks, use Master Templates instead: select exactly one rack and click Create Master. Details in [[crearack—racks—master-templates]].
