Trash: restore or permanently delete racks and maps

What it is

Deleting a rack, a map (floor plan) or a device in CreaRack Pro never destroys it right away. The item moves to a global Trash, where it keeps everything needed to bring it back — a trashed rack keeps all its devices and their positions; a trashed device keeps its card, its monitoring settings and its rack placement. Items stay in the trash indefinitely until you restore them or delete them permanently.

The Trash button sits in the dashboard header. Its badge shows the total count of trashed items: racks, maps and devices combined.

What lands in the Devices tab

Any device you delete from a list — the × on the Observatory, Wireless, UPS and Digital Signage lists, the Delete button on the Device page, or a device you remove in the Rack Editor and then save the rack — goes to the Devices tab. Deleting a device removes it from everywhere (monitoring, Terminal, its management page and any rack it was placed in); the trash entry remembers all of it.

Each row shows the device name, its IP and what the entry holds (its card, its monitoring, the rack it came from) plus the date it was deleted.

How to restore an item

  1. Open the dashboard and click Trash.
  2. Pick the Racks, Blueprints or Devices tab. Each tab shows its own count.
  3. Find the item — every row shows the name and the date it was deleted.
  4. Click Restore.

A restored rack reappears immediately in the No Map section of the dashboard. If it was placed on a map before, reload the page and it shows up under that map again. A restored map returns to your maps list.

A restored device gets its card back (groups and saved credentials included), its monitoring restarts and, if the rack it came from still exists, it is placed back in the same position. Whatever already exists with that IP is left untouched (for example, if you re-discovered the device in the meantime, the existing card is kept). Metric history is not restored — charts start again from the moment of the restore.

How to delete an item permanently

  1. Open Trash and pick the tab.
  2. Click Delete on the item.
  3. Confirm the “Permanently delete…?” prompt.

This removes the item for good. For a rack, that includes every device inside it. For a map, only the racks that were also sitting in the trash are removed with it — a rack that is still in active use is kept, with its devices intact, and simply loses its map. Emptying the whole trash follows the same rule: a rack still in use always survives. There is no way to undo a permanent delete.

How to empty the trash

  1. Open Trash.
  2. Click Empty Trash at the bottom of the modal.
  3. Confirm. This permanently deletes everything in all tabs — trashed racks, maps and devices still in the trash. Racks that are still in use are never removed, even if their map is emptied.

Permanent deletions are recorded in the activity log, so admins can see who emptied the trash and when, and how many racks were removed versus kept.
