What is the Terminal
What it is
The Terminal page is CreaRack’s network management hub. It gives you a full SSH console in the browser — no PuTTY, no SecureCRT, no extra software on the device side.
The browser cannot open raw SSH connections, so CreaRack uses the Local Agent, a small program running on your PC that listens on 127.0.0.1:5050. The Agent opens the real SSH connection to the device and streams the console back to your browser. Every call from the browser to the Agent is authenticated with a token — this happens automatically, you never handle it.
For devices managed in CreaRack, the browser sends only the device ID. The Agent fetches the SSH credentials directly from the server. Passwords never pass through — or appear in — your browser.
How the page is organized
Device sidebar
The left sidebar lists every connectable device in one place:
- Managed devices — devices with Network Management configured. One click opens an SSH session.
- Detected devices — devices found by Auto-Provision discovery but not yet adopted. One click opens a quick-connect dialog with the IP pre-filled.
Filter the list by type (Rack, Wireless, UPS, Digital Signage, Other), status, group or rack, or use the search box. Tick several devices and press Open All to open a session for each. The Groups button manages device groups.
Tabs and layouts
Each session opens in its own tab. Tabs survive page navigation: leave the Terminal, come back, and your sessions reconnect automatically. To watch several consoles at once, pick a multi-pane layout from the tab bar — 1x1, 2x1, 1x2, 2x2 or 3x1 — and drag the borders to resize panes.
Terminal Tools
- Manual Session — connect to any IP or host not registered in CreaRack.
- Cluster Mode — broadcast one command or script to all active sessions in parallel.
- Script Manager — create and edit reusable command scripts.
- Download Agent — download the Local Agent installer (CreaRackAgent.exe).
Network Tools
- Health Check — ping-test the connectivity of all listed devices at once.
- Port Scanner — scan open ports on an IP or range.
- Discovery — find live devices on your network.
- Auto-Provision — the guided wizard that discovers devices via SNMP/SSH and adopts them into CreaRack. See [[crearack—network—auto-provision-wizard]].
How to get started
- Install and run the Local Agent on a PC inside the device network. If it is not running, CreaRack shows the CreaRack Local Bridge dialog — press Activate Bridge to download and launch it.
- Add your devices with Network Management in the Rack Editor, or let Auto-Provision discover them.
- Open Terminal from the main menu and click a device in the sidebar.
- Work in the console. Open the Files panel for SFTP transfers, or Cluster Mode for bulk commands.
You can also jump straight into a session from the Rack Editor: select a managed device and press its terminal button.
Troubleshooting
- No session opens — the Local Agent is probably not running. Look for the Activate Bridge dialog, or start the Agent manually.
- Device list is empty — no device has Network Management configured yet. Add IP and credentials in the Rack Editor first.
