All your devices in the Terminal
What it is
The Terminal sidebar lists every network device you have registered — not just the ones racked in the Rack Editor. Anything discovered with Auto-Provision (a WiFi access point, a UPS, a Digital Signage player, a router) appears here too, alongside its own module page.
Two kinds of entries share the list:
- Managed devices — rack devices with Network Management enabled. They show a live status dot (online/offline) and a checkbox for batch actions.
- Detected devices — discovered via Auto-Provision but not placed in a rack. They show a small badge on the right with the module they were sent to (Wireless, UPS, Signage…), and a tooltip marking them as Detected via Auto-Provision. If the discovery saved their SSH credentials, their status dot turns green and they open directly — just like a managed device.
If a device exists both as a rack device and as a detected profile, it appears once. No duplicates.
How to connect
- Managed device: click it. The SSH session opens directly with its stored credentials — the Local Agent resolves them server-side, so they never pass through your browser.
- Detected device with stored credentials (green dot): click it. The session opens directly too — the Local Agent resolves the saved credentials server-side, so you are not asked for anything and the password never reaches your browser.
- Detected device without stored credentials (grey dot): clicking it opens the Manual SSH Session form with the IP pre-filled. Type username and password.
To open several sessions at once, tick the checkboxes on managed devices and click Open All.
How to filter the list
Use the search box to filter by name or IP as you type. Below it, the Type dropdown is the primary filter:
- All Types — everything
- Rack — devices installed in racks
- Wireless — WiFi access points
- UPS — power systems
- Digital Signage — media players
- Other — the rest
Three secondary dropdowns narrow it further: status (All Status / Online / Offline), group (All Groups plus your device groups — manage them with the Groups button), and rack (All Racks). One or two clicks show exactly the slice of your fleet you want to work on.
Troubleshooting
- A detected device is missing. Run Auto-Provision again from the sidebar’s Network Tools. Only discovered profiles and managed devices appear.
- A detected device opens the manual form instead of connecting directly. It has no saved SSH credentials (e.g. discovered before credential storage was added). Re-run Auto-Provision with credentials; new discoveries store them automatically (encrypted) and then open directly with a green dot.
- The manual form’s password field is always empty. That is by design, and you only reach that form for devices without saved credentials. Saved passwords are used server-side for direct connections, but they are never sent to the browser to pre-fill a form.
- A device shows offline but responds. Status dots update on connection events and health checks. Run Health Check from the sidebar to refresh them.
