Add access points to Wireless Monitor
What it is
Access points are not created by hand. You discover them with the Auto-Provision Wizard — the same assistant used for switches, routers and UPS devices — and send them to Wireless Monitor as their destination. CreaRack identifies the vendor, model and radio capabilities automatically over SNMP.
Before you start
- The Local Agent (
CreaRackAgent.exe) must be running on a PC inside your network. In production CreaRack lives in the cloud and cannot reach private IPs (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x) by itself — the Agent does the scanning for you. If it is not running, the scan fails immediately with “Local Agent not available. Please start CreaRackAgent.exe”. - Have the SNMP community (v2c) or SNMPv3 credentials of your APs at hand.
How to add access points
- Open the Terminal page. In the sidebar, under Network Tools, click Auto-Provision.
- Step 1 · Discovery — scan a single IP (Single Device) or a whole subnet (Subnet Scan) with the SNMP credentials. Type the credentials or pick a saved one from the Credential Store.
- Step 2 · Results & Assign — CreaRack lists what it found. APs are usually identified as access point automatically; if not, change the device type in the row.
- In the Destination column of each AP row, choose Wireless · Access Point (for a standalone AP) or Wireless · Controller (for a WiFi controller that manages several APs).
- Click Apply. CreaRack creates the monitoring entry; the saved SNMP credentials are inherited automatically and securely on the server — your browser never handles them.
The new APs appear in the Wireless Monitor sidebar within a few moments. If you also want the AP placed in its physical cabinet, choose Rack as an additional destination in the same table.
After adding
- Open Wireless Monitor and click the AP. Basic status (online/offline, client count) appears right away.
- For the rich tables — “Radios”, “SSIDs”, “Connected Clients” — run a Deep Discover from the AP’s detail view. See [[crearack—wireless—deep-discovery-troubleshooting]].
Troubleshooting
- The AP does not appear in the sidebar — check it was assigned the destination Wireless · Access Point in the wizard, not just discovered. Re-open Auto-Provision and assign it.
- The AP shows offline but it is up — the SNMP credentials may be wrong. Open the AP’s detail view and click Config to fix the credentials, then Refresh All.
- The scan finds nothing — verify the Local Agent is running and connected, and that the AP answers SNMP from the Agent’s PC.
