Place racks on the map

Place racks on the map

What it is

Racks on the map are the same racks you manage in the Rack Editor — the map only adds a position on the floor plan. The Racks in Map section in the left sidebar shows the racks already placed on the current map, with their height in U and a status dot.

How to add a rack to the map

  1. Open the map in the editor.
  2. Type the rack name in the Search… box of the Racks in Map section. The search looks through every rack in your organization, including ones not yet on this map.
  3. Drag the rack from the list and drop it on the canvas at its real location.
  4. Fine-tune by dragging it on the plan. Racks snap to a 25 px grid automatically, which keeps rows aligned.

The position saves automatically — you see an auto-save toast. You can also create a brand-new rack directly on the map with the Rack Tool (K) in the drawing tools bar.

How to adjust a rack

  • Move — drag it; connected cables follow.
  • Resize — click it with the Selection Tool (V) and pull the side handles. The size is saved per map.
  • Rename — double-click the rack and type the new name. The rename syncs to the Rack Editor and everywhere else.
  • Duplicate — select it and press Ctrl+D (or the Duplicate toolbar button).
  • Undo/Redo — Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y revert any move, add, or delete.

Status colors

The rack border reflects live network status when monitoring data exists: green = online, yellow = warning, red = offline. Blue means no status data. Hover over a rack to see a tooltip with its name and status.

How to open the Rack Editor from the map

  1. Right-click the rack on the canvas.
  2. Click Open Rack.
  3. The Rack Editor opens in a new browser tab, showing the rack’s front view and devices.

How to delete a rack from the map

  1. Select the rack with the Selection Tool (V).
  2. Press Del (or the Delete toolbar button).
  3. Type the rack name to confirm (or “DELETE” when removing several at once).

This sends the rack itself to the trash — it disappears from all maps and from the rack list, but you can restore it from the trash. Its cables on the map are removed with it.

Troubleshooting

  • A rack is missing from the sidebar list — the list shows placed racks by default. Use the Search… box to find any rack in your inventory.
  • Can’t drag or edit anything — map editing requires an admin account.
  • Deleted a rack by accident — restore it from the trash; the deletion is a soft-delete.
