What is Wireless Monitor

What it is

Wireless Monitor is the module dedicated to your WiFi infrastructure. While Network Observatory covers generic network devices (switches, routers, firewalls) with ping, SNMP and HTTP checks, Wireless Monitor adds radio-specific visibility: SSIDs, connected clients, signal quality, channel utilization and per-radio metrics.

It is designed for IT teams managing small to large WiFi deployments who need a single screen showing the health of every access point and the clients connected to it.

What you can do with it

  • Access point inventory — the left sidebar lists every device identified as an access point or wireless controller, with its name, IP, connected client count and online/offline status. An AP counts as online when either the ping sees it up or it has answered SNMP recently (some networks filter ping to their APs; SNMP still gets through). Client counts come from the live SNMP measurement; the deep-discovery snapshot is only used as a fallback when there is no live data, and the AP detail says “undated snapshot” when that snapshot predates the freshness stamp.
  • Fleet dashboard — the “Overview” tab aggregates the whole fleet: “Total APs”, “Online”, “Total Clients”, “Busiest AP”, an “AP Health Score” ring (Uptime / Latency / Loss), “Top 5 AP Rankings”, traffic charts (“Connected Clients”, “Bandwidth”) and a “24h AP Availability Matrix” heatmap.
  • Per-AP detail — click any AP to see its “Hardware” data, “Radios” (bands, channels, PHY rates), “SSIDs” (security, client counts), “Connected Clients” (MAC, IP, signal strength) and a configurable grid of real-time charts: “Station Count”, “AP Bandwidth”, “Channel Utilization”, “Noise Floor”, “SNR”, “TX Power” and more.
  • Groups — organize APs into colored groups (per building, floor or client) and filter the sidebar by group.
  • Reports — generate a printable “Fleet Report” or a per-AP “Report”, and export the fleet to CSV.
  • Deep discovery — pull vendor-specific hardware and radio tables over SNMP through the Local Agent.

Metrics are collected over SNMP using vendor-specific OID profiles and refresh automatically — no manual reload needed.

How devices get here

Access points are added through the Auto-Provision Wizard (Terminal page → “Network Tools” → “Auto-Provision”): scan the AP’s IP or subnet, then in the results table choose the destination Wireless · Access Point (or Wireless · Controller) and apply. See [[crearack—wireless—add-access-points]] for the full walkthrough.

Requirements

  1. The AP must answer SNMP (v2c or v3) with valid credentials.
  2. In production, scanning and polling private LAN addresses goes through the Local Agent (CreaRackAgent.exe) running on a PC inside your network.
  3. The AP vendor should be in CreaRack’s vendor catalog for rich radio metrics; unknown vendors still get basic monitoring.
