Cable Report

What it is

The Cable Report is a printable, self-contained HTML document of every cable connection you have documented in CreaRack. It turns your port mapping data into something you can hand to a technician, attach to a change ticket, or file as datacenter documentation.

The report is built from the connections you record in the Rack Editor — device-to-device links and device-to-profile links, with their cable type, color, length, and notes. If you have not documented any connections yet, start with [[crearack—racks—port-mapping]].

How to generate it

  1. Open a rack in the Rack Editor.
  2. Click Cable Report in the header toolbar.

The report opens in a new browser tab, scoped to the current rack. Connections that leave the rack are included too, so cross-rack links always show both ends.

Any user who can view the Network module can generate the report.

What it includes

  • Summary — total racks, total connections, and the split between device connections and profile connections.
  • Cable Inventory — count of cables by type across the whole scope.
  • Color Distribution — count of cables by color.
  • Per-rack section — rack height, location, status, and port occupancy (occupied vs total ports, as a percentage), followed by:
    • Connections table: device, port, type, target, cable type, color, length, and notes.
    • Cross-Rack Connections table: which device and port link to which rack on the other side.
    • Cable Summary for that rack.
  • Topology — a Mermaid diagram of inter-rack cabling. Each rack is a node (with its location), and each edge is labeled with the number of cables and their types.

Every report is stamped with the organization, scope, generation time, and app version.

How to export it

  • PDF — click Print / Save as PDF at the bottom of the report. A print-optimized light stylesheet is applied automatically.
  • Markdown — replace /html with /markdown in the report URL to download the same content as a .md file, Mermaid diagram included. Useful for pasting into wikis or Git repos.
  • Wider scopes — the report URL accepts scope=all for the entire organization or scope=group&id=<group-id> for a rack group, instead of the single-rack default.

Troubleshooting

  • The report is empty — no port connections are documented in this scope. The report only shows what you have mapped; it does not auto-discover cabling.
  • No Topology section — the diagram only appears when at least one connection crosses between two racks.
  • Truncation warning at the top — very large scopes are capped at 20,000 connections. Generate per-rack or per-group reports instead.
  • [[crearack—racks—port-mapping]] — where the connection data comes from
  • [[crearack—network—gestion-red]] — managed devices and their status
  • [[crearack—network—network-tools]] — live network diagnostics
