Credential Store: saved SNMP, SSH and HTTP credentials

What it is

The Credential Store keeps the credentials of your network equipment in one place so you type them once and reuse them everywhere: the Auto-Provision Wizard, monitoring and digital signage deployments. Everything is encrypted at rest (Fernet/AES) on the server.

One stored credential can hold several sections — fill only what you need; empty sections are not stored:

  • SNMP v2c — “Community String”.
  • SNMP v3 (USM) — “Username”, “Auth Protocol” (MD5, SHA, SHA-224/256/384/512), “Auth Key”, “Privacy Protocol” (None, DES, AES-128/192/256), “Privacy Key”.
  • SSH — “Username”, “Password”, “Enable Password (optional)”.
  • HTTP / Web UI — “Username”, “Password” (used, for example, by SpinetiX signage players).

Admin only.

How to manage credentials

  1. Open the Config menu and choose Stored Credentials.
  2. Click New Credential, give it a Name (e.g. “Branch switches – RO community”) and fill the sections you need. Click Save.
  3. The table lists each credential with its “Name”, “Sections” and “Created” date. Edit opens it again; Delete removes it after confirmation.

Where they get used

  • Auto-Provision Wizard — pick a stored credential in the Discovery step instead of typing the community/SSH each scan.
  • Wireless / UPS / Observatory — devices discovered with a stored credential inherit it for ongoing polling.
  • Digital Signage — deployments to SpinetiX players use the HTTP section.

In day-to-day operations the secrets stay server-side: when the Local Agent needs a credential it fetches it through its own authenticated channel by id — your browser never receives the stored passwords.

Good practices

  • One credential per population of devices (per site, per vendor), not per device — that is what makes reuse pay off.
  • Prefer SNMPv3 over v2c where your hardware supports it.
  • When a shared password rotates, edit it here once: every flow that references it picks up the new value.
