Opening and managing SSH sessions

What it is

An SSH session is a live console between your browser and a network device, bridged by the Local Agent. CreaRack supports multiple simultaneous sessions in tabs and panes, and the sessions persist while you navigate around the app.

How to open a session

Managed devices: one click

  1. Open the Terminal page.
  2. Click a managed device in the sidebar (any device with Network Management configured).
  3. The session opens. No password prompt: the browser sends only the device ID, and the Local Agent retrieves the stored credentials directly from the server. Credentials never appear in your browser.

Detected devices: quick-connect

Devices found by Auto-Provision discovery (but not yet adopted) also appear in the sidebar. Click one and the Manual SSH Session dialog opens with the IP Address pre-filled — and the Username too, if discovery stored one. Type the password yourself and press Connect. For security, stored passwords are never sent to the browser.

Manual connection

For any host not registered in CreaRack:

  1. Press Manual Session in the sidebar.
  2. Enter IP Address / Host, Port (default 22), Username and Password.
  3. Press Connect.

Manual sessions are temporary: they are not saved across reloads.

From the Rack Editor

Select a device with Network Management in a rack and press its terminal button. The Terminal page opens with the session already connecting. See [[crearack—racks—ssh-desde-rack]].

How to manage open sessions

  • Each session lives in a tab showing the device name. Click a tab to switch; tabs reconnect automatically when you return to the page.
  • Use the layout buttons (1x1, 2x1, 1x2, 2x2, 3x1) to view several sessions side by side. Drag pane borders to resize.
  • Reconnect restarts the SSH session.
  • Close closes the tab but keeps the session running on the Agent. Close Session terminates the SSH connection completely.
  • Pick a script in the — Quick Script — dropdown and press Run Script to send a saved command sequence to the session.

Session recording

Press REC in the session toolbar to start recording the console output. Press it again to stop: the log file downloads automatically (session-<id>.log). Useful for change evidence and audits.

How to customize the console

The right side of the toolbar holds per-user settings, saved automatically in your browser:

  • Theme — 8 color schemes: Campbell, Gruvbox Dark, Green Screen, Tango Dark (default), Dracula, Nord, Solarized Dark, One Dark.
  • Size — font size L (22px), M (18px) or B (14px, default).
  • Color — toggles syntax highlighting of the output (errors in red, OK states in green, warnings in yellow, IPs and MACs highlighted).

Troubleshooting

  • Session never opens — the Local Agent is not running. Start it or follow the Activate Bridge dialog.
  • Managed device asks nothing but fails to log in — the stored credentials are wrong. Fix them in the device’s Network Management settings.
  • Quick-connect rejects the password — the device is reachable but the credentials you typed are invalid. Verify them on the device.
